This Immigration Pilot Program (RNIP) has specific criteria for International Students.

All International Students who graduated with a qualification (diploma, certificate, degree, or trade or apprenticeship) from a post-secondary program of longer than 2 years or completed a master’s degree or higher in the recommending community are exempt from the work experience requirements for the Pilot Program.

Study Requirements of Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot for International Students

As an International Student, You can only get exemption from the work experience requirements only if your study meet certain requirements mentioned below:

  • You graduated with a qualification (diploma, certificate, degree, or trade or apprenticeship) from a post-secondary program of longer than 2 years and
    • you were a full-time student for the full duration of the 2+ years.
    • you have received the qualification less than 18 months before your application.
    • you were in the recommending community for minimum of 16 months of the most recent 24 months spent studying to get your qualification.

Or

  • You completed master’s degree or higher and
    • you were a full-time student for the full duration of your study.
    • you obtained your degree less than 18 months before your application.
    • you were in the recommending community for the full duration of your study.

You can’t apply as an international student in this Pilot Program if your qualifications are from a program where

  • Learning English or French made up the greater part (more than 50%) of the program.
  • distance learning made up the greater part (more than 50%) of the program.
  • a scholarship or fellowship was granted that expects you to come back to your home country to apply what you learned.
